ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Ethel & Maud Luncheon: The June edition is set for Wednesday at City View on the fourth floor of the Illinois Terminal. Entertainment will be Hawaiian themed, with catering by Dish Passionate Cuisine. Free parking in the west lot from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Reservations are closed.
  • Champaign County Freedom Celebration: Are you a healthy senior available to assist with Freedom Celebration activities on the University of Illinois campus? Seeking three volunteers between 8 a.m. and noon on July 3, 4 or 5 to hand out T-shirts, water and doughnuts to other volunteers. Tent shade, water, snack and potty provided. Contact the Stevick Senior Center at 217-359-6500 to sign up. If you can work for two hours, that helps!
  • Juneteenth celebration: Join the Urbana Park District and the Urbana Free Library for a family-friendly Juneteenth celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lakehouse at Crystal Lake Park! Enjoy music, food and refreshments, fishing, UrVANa Mobile Recreation Unit games and activities, community resources, and more as we celebrate Black freedom and achievements in Urbana and beyond.
  • Martin Luther King Jettie Rhodes Neighborhood Day: This event, all about giving back to the community with fun, family, networking and a diverse atmosphere, is set for noon to 4 p.m. June 22 at King Park in Urbana. Enjoy free food (while supplies last), live entertainment, kids’ activities, raffle prizes and a wealth of resourceful information provided by various local nonprofits. Rain or shine, the fun goes on!

STEVICK CENTER ACTIVITIES

  • Managing chronic diseases: Take charge of your health! Join the six-week Chronic Disease Self-Management Program class from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays from June 3 through July 8 at the Stevick Senior Center. Hosted by Family Service. Call Deb at 217-352-5100 to register.
  • Rules of the Road: The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office will be holding a Rules of the Road Class from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Stevick Center. Parking is limited, so call Debbie now at 217-359-6500 to register.
  • Men’s group: 9 a.m. Monday-Friday. Join us for a cup of coffee and great conversation.
  • Game Days: For those who like to play Scrabble, Dominoes, Yahtzee or Skip-Bo. Noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays. Call Debbie at 217-359-6500 or email stevickcenter@gmail.com for more information.
  • Bingo: 11 a.m. to noon, second and fourth Tuesdays. Call 217-359-6500.
  • Crochet, knit and stitch: 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Thursdays.

CRIS HEALTHY AGING ACTIVITIES

  • Virtual memory-care support group: Are you caring for a loved one with memory loss? We want to help support you and your loved one! Come to our virtual memory-care support group. We meet online from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. every other Tuesday. Go to oneclick.chat/cris to join.
  • Aging Mastery: Come socialize and discuss empowering topics such as financial fitness, healthy eating and hydration and sleep, to name a few. Join the group each Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Champaign location or 1 p.m. in Danville. Call 217-443-2999 today to reserve your spot.
  • Traveling bingo: Join OSF Faith in Action as they bring bingo to CRIS Healthy Aging. Come out and bring a friend from 2 to 3 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month for bingo, snacks and prizes! Call us at 217-355-1543 with any questions.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM

The Peace Meal Nutrition Program provides daily hot lunches at 11:30 a.m. for a small donation and a one-day advance reservation at sites in Champaign, Urbana, Rantoul, Sidney (home delivery only), Mahomet (home delivery only) and Homer.

For reservations, call 800-543-1770. Reservations for Monday must be made by noon Friday. NOTE: There is no change for home deliveries, but at congregate sites, you can get a carry-out meal.

  • Monday: Peppered beef over brown rice, lima beans, warm cinnamon baked apples, whole-grain wheat bread, oranges.
  • Tuesday: Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, spinach, whole-grain wheat bread, banana pudding with fresh bananas.
  • Wednesday: Savory sausage stew, beans, pickled beets, whole-grain wheat bread, warm fruit cobbler.
  • Thursday: Chicken salad, tortellini vegetable soup, creamy cole slaw, bun/crackers, fruit salad.
  • Friday: Pulled-pork sandwich, baked beans, spinach, peaches.
