Happy 2016 everyone!! Let's start this new year right with a healthy recipe! 🙂 This traditional Japanese side dish, Gomae, is loaded with spinach and seasoned with a delicious, creamy sesame dressing.

Gomae Spinach Salad (or Goma-ae) (1)

I am in lovewith the sesame dressing! And it's interesting that this dish is named after this dressing. One of my readers pointed out that the word "Goma" essentially meanssesame seeds and "Ae" means to dress(Thanks, Franca! :)) And I really can't get enough of this stuff! Any timeI go to a Japanese restaurant, the only dishes I order are basically sushi and gomae. I onlywish that the portions were bigger! Butnow that I have developed my own recipe for gomae, I can help myself to as many portions as I would like! 😀

So stoked to have come across this recipe. For some reason most sushi places I go to don’t offer this and it’s one of my favorite dishes.
    Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean about finding a favorite dish at a restaurant and being limited to tiny servings that they feel are proper. It's such a great feeling to figure how to make it yourself and eat the whole crazy giant bowl yourself!!

Your photos make this look lovely - I'm going to give this spinach a try!
