A legal aid hotline is available for Hurricane Michael survivors in Florida who cannot pay for an attorney:1-866-550-2929. English and Spanish voicemail recordings give instructions for callers to leave a message requesting storm-related legal assistance, and to provide their name, phone number, county of residence and a description of their legal problems.Florida lawyers have volunteered to provide free legal help such as:

  • Securing FEMA and other benefits;
  • Making life, medical and property insurance claims;
  • Dealing with home repair contractors;
  • Replacing wills and other important legal documents destroyed in the hurricane;
  • Helping with consumer protection matters, remedies and procedures;
  • Counseling on mortgage-foreclosure problems or landlord/tenant issues.

Planet Fitness welcomes anyone – member or not – affected by the hurricane to use amenities (showers, etc) free of charge at 15 of its clubs, starting today for as long as impacted communities need help during recovery. (Tallahassee locations are on North Monroe Street and Cross Creek Square.)

For citizens with continuing needs following Hurricane Michael, 2-1-1 Big Bend can provided much needs referral services to local human services agencies. Calls are free, confidential and anonymous. Trained hotline counselors are available to listen and provide emotional support, crisis counseling, suicide prevention and information.

Coldwell Banker Hartung and Noblin, Inc. has teamed up with “No Town Left Behind” to collect items for pick up to smaller towns affected by the Hurricane. These donations will be going to cities such as Marianna, Blountstownand Wewahitchka. Drop off items to 3303 Thomasville Road before noonMonday.See the most crucial items needed here.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at565 E. Tennessee St.The organization is planning trips toBlountstown on Saturday.Suggested donations include gas, batteries, bug spray, tarps, duct tape, diapers, wipes, formula, dog/cat food, gallons of water.

Goodwill has provided the Red Cross vouchers for people affected by Hurricane Michael, allowing the victims to shop at any Goodwill retail store in the Big Bendarea. Goodwill is positioned to accept, sort, store and distribute donations of clothing and household goods. Donate items atany donation center and designate yourdonation to Hurricane Michael.

School Board Chair Alva Striplin is heading to Blountstown on Saturday.They are in dire need of sleeping tents, large party type tents, large tarps and duct tape.If you are able to donate any of those items please bring them to the front office at Chiles High School,7200 Lawton Chiles Lane,by 3:30 p.m. Friday. Volunteers are also needed toset up tents.

Shoe Station is hosting a United Way Day Fundraiser on Oct.21 in its 21 locations across the Southeast, including the Tallahassee location atVillage Commons, 1390 Village Square Blvd.On that day, the retail chain is donating $1for every pair of shoes, sandals, and boots sold to United Way.

The retailer will present a check to its longtime community partner, United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA), which will then distribute the funds to Southeastern communities in need.

The Workmans of Aerial Tallahasseehave collaborated with @JesseTaylorCreative to design a T-shirt, with 100 percentof the proceeds fromsales going to localMexico Beach/Port St. Joe based non-profits, directed specifically to their Hurricane Michael relief funds.Shirts are $25-$28 and can be ordered at NeverForgottenCoast.com.

Gaines Street Piesis donating $10,000 of hot pizza to communities in need this week across the Panhandle. If you'd like to volunteer to make a run, send them a message on Facebook. Theyare also opening all locations (Gaines Street Pies, Midtown Pies, Northside Pies) as drop off locations for supplies to send along with hot meals. Needed:

  • diapers
  • paper towels
  • toilet paper
  • latex gloves
  • coolers
  • gas cans
  • box fans
  • tarps
  • batteries
  • canned food

Bring them by one of the restaurants and theywill drop them to people that need them.

The GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Midtown is organizing a supply drive for those affected in Gadsden County. They are collecting supplies that will be delivered to the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office and distributed among those areas affected in Gadsden County.Needs:

  • Baby Supplies: formula, diapers, wipes, baby blankets, bottles, clothing, etc.
  • Pet food and supplies
  • Hygiene products: soap, body wash, sanitary items, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, etc.

Items can be dropped off at the Law Offices of Thompson, Crawford and Smiley,1330 ThomasvilleRoad, during normal business hours until Friday.

The “FAMU Cares” Hurricane Michael Relief Drive invites the FAMU community to donate hurricane relief items to FAMU students, faculty, staff and alumni impacted by Hurricane Michael. Needed:

  • bottled water
  • hand sanitizer
  • deodorant
  • personal hygiene items
  • first aid kits
  • baby wipes
  • paper towels
  • batteries
  • flashlights
  • manual can openers
  • non-perishable, canned food including canned tuna, chicken or salmon, meals in a can (soup, stew, chili), and canned fruit in its own juice or water. Pop-up lids are best.

Items will be collected from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Fridayat the FAMU Department of Campus Safety and Security,2400 Wahnish Way.

Volunteers needed: The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee in collaboration with Catholic Charities of NW Florida are seeking volunteers to help distribute food and supplies. This is not a religious activity — the location is serving as a distribution site. Needed are 50 volunteers seven days a week for several months.Watch Fr. Luke Farabaugh's video.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Charity Fund has started a GoFundMe for Hurricane Michael Relief. Donate online or mail donations toFCSO Charity Fund, 270 SR 65, Eastpoint, FL,32328.

United Way of Florida has established the United Way Hurricane Michael Recovery Fund, a state fund that will distribute 100 percent of donations to recovery efforts in the affected areas of Hurricane Michael. To donate or volunteer, please go to www.uwbb.org.

Donate to the Seminole Emergency Relief Fund and the Seminole Emergency Relief Fund - Panama City to directly benefit FSU students, faculty and staff in need.

The Humane Society of the United States isis deployed in Florida, working with local officials to transport and care for animals. Donate to the Emergency Animal Rescue Fund.

To donate, to the American Red Cross go towww.redcross.org, call 800-RED CROSS or text the word MICHAEL to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from the hurricane.

Donors can designate their donation to Hurricane Michael relief efforts by choosing that option when donating atwww.redcross.orgor when calling 800-RED CROSS.

The best way to ensure a donation will go to a specific disaster, write the specific disaster name in the memo line of the check. The Red Cross also recommends completing and mailing the donation form onwww.redcross.orgwith the check.

TheDisaster Recovery Network at GlobalGiving, an organizationthat connectsdonors to vetted local charities after a disaster, launched the Hurricane Michael Relief Fund. It will meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene productsand shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, the fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local organizations.

Donate atwww.globalgiving.org/projects/hurricane-michael-relief-fund. The organization guarantees donations will be used for Hurricane Michael response.

The Florida Disaster Fund is taking donations to assistthevictims of Hurricane Michael. You can text DISASTER to 20222 to provide a one-time $10 donation or Disaster25 to 20222 for a $25 donation to Hurricane Michael relief effort.

The Southeastern USA Animal Rescue Relieforganization also is collecting donations as it prepares to assist with the rescue and recovery of pets left behind in the wake of Hurricane Michael.Donate for disaster relief effortshere.

Farm Share, a 27-year-old food nonprofit, continues to deploy semi-trucks with resources towards the Panhandle and North Florida to assist those in need.Donations for Farm Share’s Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts may be made on-line at farmshare.org or by contacting Gussie Flynn at 305-246-3276

Another way to help is to donate blood. OneBlood is a non-profit organization that is located in almost all counties in Florida and in the southern regions of Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

Search for their blood drives to help victims of Hurricane Michael.

Sonny’s BBQ will donate 10 percent of sales to Operation BBQ Relief Wednesday. This nonprofit is collaborating with local government agencies and the Salvation Army to provide meals to displaced residents and emergency personnel.

Participating locations in the area include:

- Tallahasseee at 3101 Dick Wilson Blvd

- Tallahasseee at 2707 N. Monroe Street

- Tallahasseee at 1460 Timberlane Rd

Uber is providing free rides, food and relief to families and communities affected by the storm. The free rides will be up to $25 each to and from state approved evacuation shelters.
