World Pool Championship 2024: Draw, live scores, format, prize fund and how to watch (2024)

The 33rd staging of the World Pool Championship is quickly approaching as 128 players head to Saudi Arabia to compete in the crown jewel of nineball pool, with a historic $1million prize purse on offer.

Jeddah’s Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City plays host to one of two blue-ribbon events on the World Nineball Tour from June 3-8, as world number one Francisco Sanchez Ruiz defends his title, having beaten Mohammad Soufi in last year’s final.

Having been held in Kielce, Poland almost a year-and-half ago, the World Championship embarks on a ten-year stint in the Middle East, with the world’s top 100 players being accompanied by 13 Saudi representatives and 15 wildcards for the six-day competition.

Twelve former winners will be involved, namely defending champion Sanchez Ruiz, Shane van Boening, Albin Ouschan, Fedor Gorst, Joshua Filler, Carlo Biado, Ko Pin-Yi, Niels Feijen, Thorsten Hohmann, Darren Appleton, Alex Pagulayan and Ralf Souquet.

World number four Ko Ping-Chung, twice a semi-finalist, is the highest-ranked player to have never won the prestigious accolade, with the likes of Jayson Shaw, Eklent Kaci, Mario He and Aloysius Yapp also vying to become first-time world champions and trouser the $250,000 top prize.

Newly-crowned UK Open champion Robbie Capito is also amongst the notable entries alongside Derby City Classic runner-up Pijus Labutis, while other contenders include Skyler Woodward, Moritz Neuhausen and Mieszko Fortunski.

Former world 10-ball champion Wojciech Szewczyk, Daniel Maciol and Pia Filler were selected amongst the wildcards from promoters Matchroom and the WPA, while Khalid Al-Ghamdi, a WNT junior champion in Atlantic City, headlines the host nation representatives.

Players will need to win two matches to come through the double elimination phase, which is race-to-nine racks, before the single elimination phase involves 64 players and is race-to-11 racks until Saturday evening’s extended race-to-15 final.

Coverage will be broadcast live on Sky Sports throughout the six days, beginning from 7pm local time on Monday, while DAZN will be screening the action in the USA and Spain amongst others. A full list of broadcasters can be found here.
